The Bursary Fund

Philanthropy has played a vital role at LEH since its inception in the early 18th century when the Honourable Anne Watson chose to use an ‘overplus' from the Will of Lady Eleanor Holles to set up a school to educate 50 poor girls in the east end of London. This early philanthropic gesture paved the way for other generous supporters throughout the school's history, and a culture of giving continues today.

It is on this foundation that we have built a strong bursary programme and thanks to the generosity of our school community, we have been able to support 73 students this year (with over 65% receiving full bursaries). An LEH bursary not only covers the fees of students throughout their time at the school, it also covers associated costs. However, demand for bursaries is greater than ever and we have set ourselves the ambitious target of supporting 100 pupils by 2025, with a fundraising goal of £1m a year.

We are inviting you

We are inviting you to join the 1710 Society today by setting up a regular gift, which could be as little as £1.71 per month. Please help us give more students the opportunity of a life changing education at this remarkable school.

If 100 people give £17.10 a month, with Gift Aid, it would cover the cost of 1 new bursary student
If 75 people give £171.00 a month, with Gift Aid, it would cover the cost of 10 new bursary students

The difference an LEH bursary can make

Over the years, former bursary students have gone on to follow a wide variety of career paths but all of them are united by their desire to pass on the benefits of the LEH education they received.
