Feature of the Month: Chassis, Chicanes, and Checkered Flags: LEH’s Nida in Pole Position

Meet Nida Anis, Class of 2023 - who's balancing a career in motorsport as a data engineer & technical coordinator alongside their studies in Motorsport Engineering at Oxford Brookes University.

Nida is driven, focussed and filled with passion to set a blazing trail for women in the world of motorsport. Sharing advice to everyone in the LEH Community, Nida believes: “the harder you work, the luckier you get, and you can do anything that you set your mind to!" Although the road travelled hasn’t been straightforward, with some thrills and sharp corners along the way, Nida is carving out a very bright future in this motorsports industry.

“Unlike many people within the motorsport industry, I never grew up around cars. In fact, I was the first person in my extended family to obtain a driving licence! I was introduced to racing by a friend at the age of 16, but it was only when I was 17 that I began to consider pursuing a career in the sport.

“At LEH, I had the opportunity to complete an Extended Project Qualification that looked at the development of motorcycle racing safety measures over time. This led to me attaining a scholarship place on the Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna's two-week Italian Motor Valley Experience engineering programme in partnership with Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Dallar in Modena. Through taking part in factory tours, hands-on workshops, and university seminars, I realised that I wanted to become a motorsport engineer”.

After securing trackside experience placements in Formula Ford, Nida went on to a role as a Junior Engineer in the 2023 GB4 Championship.

“Although balancing these commitments with my A-Levels was tricky, I gained a lot from working within a professional racing team”, Nida reflects.

“After graduating from LEH, I elected to take a gap year to gain further work experience before beginning my university studies. During this time, I worked in trackside engineering roles in series including the Formula 4 Indian Championship, the Formula Regional Middle East Championship, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, GT World Challenge Asia, and the FIA Motorsport Games. Undertaking a gap year enabled me to be financially independent and to define my future on my own terms, I can't recommend it enough!

“Starting my second year at university, I can wholeheartedly say that I've enjoyed my time at Brookes and have benefitted from the university's strong links to the motorsport industry. I have continued to work trackside across Asia during my first year, in championships such as: Super Taikyu, SRO Japan Cup, Thailand Super Series, and Malaysia Speed Festival. As the summer ends, I'll be returning to my first team, Evans GP, to support their F4 South East Asia campaign.”

Nida is certainly someone who likes to keep busy – both on and off the track:

“I’ve decided to create a news platform dedicated to covering motorsport in Asia called Asian Motorsport . If life in the fast lane wasn’t busy enough, I’m also training for the Oxford Half Marathon to raise at least £350 for Survivor Space Oxfordshire, a charity that's very close to my heart.”

When thinking about what it takes to progress in what many still feel is a male-dominated industry, Nida says that commitment and resilience are key: “Motorsport has been difficult at times, and it's often the case that I'm the only woman within a race team (or one of a handful of women working in technical roles in the paddock), but there's nothing quite like the feeling of winning a race and knowing you've performed to the best of your ability.”

Everyone at LEH is looking forward to keeping pace with Nida’s fascinating career path, which we know will inspire many others.
