In Memory of Justine Newport, née Gunston, Class of 1961

We are sincerely saddened to let you know that Justine Newport, née Gunston, Class of 1961, passed away in Australia in March 2026.

We are sincerely saddened to let you know that Justine Newport, née Gunston, Class of 1961, passed away in Australia in March 2026.

On leaving school, Justine trained as a nurse. Following her first marriage, she and her husband moved to Australia. She then attended the University of Hobart to study for a Fine Arts degree. She loved studying and followed this with a Master’s in Social Science, specialising in counselling, followed by a PhD in creative writing.

Together with her second husband, she set up a very successful business as a potter and artist, her dramatic paintings reflecting her personality.

They also loved renovating old houses and, according to her children, moved frequently.

Sadly, Justine developed Alzheimer’s disease and, towards the end of her life, had no recognition of the few school friends she had kept in touch with.

Prior to finding happiness with her second husband, she had a period when life was challenging, but she never gave up and was determined that her children would have a good life.
