LEH’s Head of Rowing Abby Johnston, who is also an alumna from the Class of 2007, was on the red sofa alongside fellow alumna Charlotte Irving, from the Class of 2008, and team mate Kat Cordiner to talk about their world record-breaking crossing of the Atlantic.
The trio became the fastest trio of women to complete the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge last month, knocking seven days off the previous record. The crossing took six weeks in their boat called the Dolly Parton.
The team were shocked and delighted when presenter Dan Walker announced a special message from the legendary singer Dolly Parton herself. She told the women: “I am so proud of you and you are to be commended. Having my name associated with great girls like you is wonderful, so thank you from the bottom of my heart – you’ve helped a lot of people.”
All three women are planning their next adventures and are continuing to raise funds for their three cancer charities for their epic undertaking. To make a donation, please visit: Charities | ExtraOARdinary Causes (weareextraoardinary.com).
