Earlier this month, we welcomed back Linda Harrison, Class of 1972, and Liz Sedgwick, Class of 1973. Linda now lives in Australia and, while she was back in the UK, wanted to see how LEH had changed after not returning since she left school in the 1970s.
Still firm friends, it was lovely to hear them reminiscing about their time at LEH. One memory that made us all smile was learning to make grape and almond soup. "It sounds odd, but it was actually quite nice!", Liz laughed as we walked around the school together.
It was wonderful to show them both the older and newer parts of the school. As we passed the science corridor, Liz smiled and said: "It still feels exactly the same as it did when we were here!" They also enjoyed seeing the Alumnae Wall in the Gateway Building and were so impressed by the artwork on display in the Arts department. It was a real pleasure to show Linda and Liz how LEH continues to celebrate and support every young woman who comes through its doors.
Perhaps the biggest surprise was just how much the uniform has changed. The red money belts have gone, skirt lengths are no longer measured to be three inches from the floor, and teachers are not checking hemlines anymore.
One thing that has not changed, though, is the lasting impact of an LEH education. Both Linda and Liz spoke about the confidence the school gave them, and how grateful they still are to have been part of the LEH community.
If you'd like to hear more about their visit, you can watch their interview on our Instagram page.
Coming back to LEH is always a chance to see what has changed, revisit familiar places and reconnect with old friends. We would love to welcome even more alumnae back for this year's Reunion on 3 October, starting at 10.00am. There will be tours of the school, delicious food, plenty of time to catch up with friends and former teachers, and the chance to make some new memories too.
Whether you left a few years ago or several decades ago, we hope you'll come back and join us. We'd love to see you.
You can purchase your ticket here.
