There was an especially strong turnout from the Class of 1982, celebrating their 40th anniversary of leaving the school, who described themselves as “the naughty ones” and were clearly delighted to see each other again.

But there was good representation across the board, especially from the Class of 1987 (marking their 35th anniversary), the Class of 1997 (who left 25 years ago) and the Class of 2012, attending their first get-together after 10 years.

“It was wonderful to walk the old corridors again and share so many memories with old classmates,” said Clare O’Kane from the Class of 1987.

Jean Wynd, from the Class of 1957, was one of a few celebrating 65 years since leaving the school.  She said: “What a lovely time we had at the Reunion. Thank you so much to everyone who worked so hard to give us a memorable time. I feel very proud to have been part of LEHS.”

Liz Mangles from the Class of 1982, said: “It certainly was a great day on Saturday, lovely to see so many faces from the past, including some of our teachers.”

The former teachers attending were PE teacher Mary Beardwood, Physics teacher Kate Ellis, Chemistry teacher Trish White, Geography teacher Chris Dapre, RE teachers Tracy Millington and Judy Perkins, Classics teacher Lesley Hazel, History teacher Jaqueline Khan, Head of Economics and Careers Alison Matthews and Head of French Veronica Kean.

As well as catching up with each other and chatting to their former teachers, there was also an opportunity to meet current pupils.  Some of our music scholars performed a variety of songs as well as piano and harp pieces, and three of our current Upper Sixth students presented the original research they have carried out as part of their Extended Project Qualifications.

There was lots of praise for the group of Sixth Formers who acted as tour guides, taking groups of alumnae around the school to see their old classrooms, walk the corridors once again and admire the many new additions to the school.

“Our guide, Esther was outstanding,” said Clare O’Kane.  “She was so patient with us as we took forever, taking photos for us and answering all our questions. She really was wonderful.”

It was a joy to have so many of our alumnae back in school – and we’re looking forward to next year already!
