LGBTQ+ alumni and allies ranging in age from 18 to 73 met up in King's Cross to look round Queer Britain, the UK’s first and only LGBTQ+ museum, and then headed to a nearby café to swap experiences, talk about their time at LEH, and get to know each other better.
The Club is run in conjunction with LEH Head of Upper School, Flora Ellison, who also oversees the LEH Pride Club in school. Flora says: “Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and we agreed we’d like to meet up regularly, probably every six months or so.
“Running Pride Club at LEH has made me realise the power of community and peer support. It’s very empowering for our students and younger alumni to see other people like them in society, living their lives as openly gay people. It encourages them to feel represented, inspired, and motivated. Having positive role models can help them find the confidence to be true to themselves.
“It’s really important that there are famous LGBTQ+ role models, like actors and music stars, but it makes it so much more real and reassuring when you see people with a shared experience, like attending the same school, succeeding. It helps you believe that you can be yourself and succeed too.”
