The sequel to the Oscar-winning classic, Gladiator, which was released in 2000, stars heart-throb Paul Mescal as the vengeful hero Lucius, to Denzel Washington’s Machiavellian former slave Macrinus turned arms dealer.
The Guardian has hailed it as a “thrilling spectacle and “gobsmacking reboot” while The Hollywood Reporter noted the film’s bigger, bolder action thanks to advances in digital technology.
Georgie, who started working on the project almost a year ago, says: “I worked as the Post Production Coordinator - a slightly different name for an Assistant Producer who coordinates the project from when the camera stops rolling.
“I worked closely with one of the Exec Producers as the predominant production support for several creative teams, including the Editorial and Sound crews. We were really in the thick of it! I had the opportunity to work alongside a number of the actors, as well as Ridley and other principal creatives. There were some real “oh my goodness, is this really happening to me?” moments!
“Last week, I attended the Cast and Crew screening in Leicester Square where all of those involved in the project got to watch the film for the first time. Ridley and Paul Mescal very graciously introduced the film and thanked everyone for their work. I was in the minority as my role in Post meant I had already seen the film countless times, however it was very special sitting in a room with hundreds of creatives (actors, costume, hair, makeup, props, stunts etc.) witnessing the spectacular culmination of their efforts.
“There were continuous whispers throughout the film as crew recounted anecdotes of their time on set and everyone cheered as their credits rolled on the screen at the end. I'm utterly delighted and very lucky to have been given such a career-changing opportunity on a film of this scale.”
Georgie recently signed up as a mentor on the LEH Elevate mentoring platform of the alumnae website Holles Connect. She explains: “When I was at LEH, I was a very involved member of the theatre department, and I’ve pursued this love by moving into a career in the film and TV industry.
“I’ve been very fortunate and found myself in several ‘right place, right time’ scenarios that mean I’ve had some exciting professional opportunities, however I’ve been astounded by the lack of support in the industry for those trying to break in. I’d really like to do something to remedy change. I know what a difference a simple conversation can make, so I’m keen to help where I can.”
