Gold and Silver for Louisa

Fingers crossed for fleet-of-foot Louisa Stoney, Class of 2020, who is competing in the 200m at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham next week (February 22 & 23).

If Louisa maintains her present form, she could be selected to represent Great Britain at the European Indoor Championships and World Indoor Championships next month.

Louisa took a four-year break from training and competition, but has now returned to running on blistering form. She hopes to be selected to compete on behalf of Wales, having gradauted from Cardiff University last year.

She says: “I’ve come back this year as an underdog and I’m using this as my comeback season. I’ve opened the year with lifetime bests in every single race I have done thus far, which has exceeded expectation, putting me in a league I previously have never been in.”

Last month in the Welsh Indoor Championships, she won silver in the 60m and became Welsh Champion in the 200m (pictured above). Her goal for the next season is to be selected to compete at the Commonwealth Games for Wales.

Louisa says: “My training has been better than ever before, and this year I have really taken into account my nutrition, lifestyle and mindset, which all go hand-in-hand and carry such importance with high-performance sports.

“I love competing and always have. Luckily I’m not a nervous person when it comes to racing, so I always just go out there and just have fun. I’ll be up against athletes who ran at the Paris Olympics, so it will be an amazing experience and I will be happy with my outcome, regardless.”

Gaining sponsorship in athletics in order to make a career of it, can be really challenging, so Louisa is still continuing with her online vintage fashion business, which she recently rebranded as Lou’s London. She hopes eventually to find a career which combines her joint passions for sports and business. With her drive and determination to succeed, we’re sure she’ll achieve her ambitions.
