Last week, LEH alumnae Amelia, Class of 2015, and Lydia, Class of 2016, Miller appeared on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den, and what an inspiring moment of pride it was for the entire LEH community.
Both women began their LEH journey in the Junior School and progressed through to the Sixth Form, truly embodying the school’s ethos that “Hope Favours the Bold.” They entered the Den as confident, articulate professionals, ready to demonstrate to the Dragons why their company, ivee, is such an exceptional business.
After watching their own mother struggle to find a job and return to work after having three children, the Miller sisters were inspired to create opportunities and training for returning to work easier. We caught up with the sister's mother, Cally Miller, who shared:
“As their mum, it has been incredibly moving to watch Amelia and Lydia build something with such purpose. It all started at the kitchen table. They have taken their own experiences, as well as mine, and turned them into a platform that now helps thousands of people navigate one of the most challenging stages in their careers. I know how much of themselves they have poured into ivee, and it makes me immensely proud to see their vision come to life. Strong values matter enormously, and they certainly learned these at LEH from an early age.”
Amelia and Lydia were recipients of the Be Bold Grant in 2023, and we like to think of LEH as the first “Dragons” to invest in this remarkable enterprise.
Cally added:
“Both Amelia and Lydia have been recipients of the school’s Be Bold Grant, and I know how much that early vote of confidence meant to them. It gave them not only practical support but also belief, and that belief has carried through into everything they have achieved.
Since Dragons’ Den was filmed over a year ago, ivee has evolved into a platform designed for anyone who has taken a career break or is looking to pivot in their professional journey, regardless of gender, race or background. While their mission has expanded, its core remains the same: to create opportunities for those who have too often been overlooked. That is something we can all be proud of.”
If you would like to watch Amelia and Lydia in action, click the link and fast forward to 37 minutes to see them step into the Den. We will not spoil the outcome, but we are certain you will be cheering them on.
“Through ivee, you can feel confident enough not just to apply for, but to secure, roles.”
— Amelia Miller
We encourage our community to share the Miller sisters’ story and help them continue to challenge the status quo, supporting more people, particularly women, in returning to work if they wish to do so.
If you or someone you know is exploring a return to work, help us continue to rise by lifting others and spreading the word about the incredible work ivee is doing.
Finally, a reminder that there is just over a week left to apply for the chance to get £1,000 from the Be Bold Grant. You can put it towards a business venture, upskilling, or a new hobby. The deadline is 24 October, and full application details can be found here.
