We are delighted to share some wonderful news about former LEH Art Teacher, Mrs Hilary Peat, who has been pouring her creativity and passion into crafting beautiful pottery in her home studio.
Her dedication and artistic vision have been recognised, as Mrs Peat has been named a finalist for Surrey Artist of the Year 2025. She is now inviting the public to support her by casting a vote for her stunning work here.
This year also marks a special milestone for Mrs Peat, as she takes part for the first time in Surrey Artists’ Open Studios, which runs until 1 November. Visitors are warmly encouraged to drop by, meet Hilary and experience her work in person.
Reflecting on her nomination, Mrs Peat shared:
“I am absolutely delighted to have been shortlisted for Surrey Artist of the Year 2025, organised by the New Ashgate Gallery in partnership with Surrey Artists Open Studios. It is such a wonderful opportunity to showcase my work alongside other talented artists and to connect with new audiences.”
The competition invites the public to vote in two stages: first during Surrey Artists Open Studios in June, and again during the gallery exhibition, with voting continuing until 17 October 2025.
The exhibition celebrates a wide range of artistic disciplines, including painting, ceramics, stained glass and jewellery. You can also explore it virtually via the New Ashgate Gallery website: Home - New Ashgate Gallery and Shop
Hilary warmly invites LEH alumnae to take a look at her recent creations and, if they feel inspired, to show their support by voting:
“Much of my inspiration comes from the natural world, its ever-changing colours, light and reflections. My hand-built ceramic vessels are decorated with geometric patterns that wrap around each piece with care and precision. Each vessel is individually hand-painted and built up in layers of colour to create a richly textured, tactile surface with subtle tonal shifts.”
Hilary continues:
“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported me on this journey. Your encouragement means the world.”
We send our warmest congratulations to Mrs Peat on this remarkable achievement and encourage everyone to take a moment to explore her beautiful and inspiring work and cast their vote in support.
